Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will travel “soon” to Chad. He will go there to proclaim the resumption of diplomatic relations with this predominantly Muslim African country.
This announced visit by the Israeli Prime Minister and the resumption of diplomatic relations are the first tangible results of the visit of President Idriss Deby Itno to Israel.
Diplomatic warming that comes after 4 decades of rupture. No date has yet been given for the moment by the office of Mr. Netanyahu for the holding of his visit. The two leaders discussed “the fight against terrorism, as well as the strengthening of cooperation in particular in agriculture, counter-terrorism, border defence, technology, solar energy, water and health” says the communiqué sanctioning the visit of the Chadian president.
No details on military cooperation between the two countries have been disclosed. Arriving in Israel on Sunday, the Chadian president had raised “the prospect” of the resumption of diplomatic relations with the Jewish state, while emphasizing that this “does not hide the Palestinian problem”.
“Chad is deeply committed to the peace process between Israel and Palestine,” he said.
