The Koksijdse tattoo artist Vincent Hocquet has created a personalized slipmat with optical illusion for piano virtuoso Jef Neve. The artwork is based on a photo taken by Rob Walbers van Neve.
A slip mat is a kind of protection for a long-playing plate. “The technique is based on that of the fenakistiscope,” say the forerunner of the animated film and, moreover, an invention of the Belgian Joseph Plateau. If the slipmat, a gadget with vinyl enthusiasts, spins around, the animation comes to life via the stroboscope (the application can be downloaded on the smartphone) or with a shutterspeed camera. Neve is already “super content with his special gadget.”
