Amazon boss Jeff Bezos proudly presented his brand new moon lander ‘Blue Moon’. The richest man in the world has long been aiming his arrows at space, this step is a huge one. By 2024, Blue Moon will already take people to the moon.
This is how Bezos explained his plans: The lunar lander will first and foremost carry cargo to space and has a capacity between 3.6 and 6.5 tons. A striking pinch is that the spacecraft has small cranes to place the cargo. He will also be able to carry satellites that he can launch during his trip to the moon.
But the big assignment for Blue Moon will be bringing astronauts to the moon. And that by 2024.
Race to space
Almost 65 years after the ‘Cold War’ race to space, the whole world is looking up again. The American vice-president Mike Pence announced at the end of March that the US should be back on its feet again within 5 years, with all possible means.
With that, he largely refers to commercial space companies such as Space X from Elon Musk, because NASA, which is part of the US federal government, has to do with less money every year. That Jeff Bezos is just now showing his new lunar lander to the world is, therefore, no coincidence. The race to space this time will be mainly between Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos.
