Lalit (13) suffers from rare syndrome, resembles werewolf

Lalit 13-year-old boy from India suffers from a rare syndrome, which makes him look like a werewolf. Lalit Patidar was born with hypertrichosis, a condition that causes excessive hair growth in certain places. With him that is mainly on the face.

He lives in Ratlam in India and is part of a family with 14 children. The deviation he suffers is innate. There are different forms of it, but this one is the rarest syndrome. Worldwide, fewer than a hundred people would have the condition, which usually make them resemble werewolf. It causes a strong increase in hair growth on the face, arms, legs or other parts of the body.

“Already at his birth he had abnormal hair on his body”, Lalit’s mum 42-year-old explains. “We immediately asked a paediatrician, but he said that we could not do anything about it. When Lalit was 2 years old, he was examined by a whole team of doctors. But for now, there is no cure for such rare syndrome.”

Lalit himself realizes that he is ‘different’. “Sometimes I wish I was like other children,” Lalit patidar says. “But I cannot do much about it. I am now used to it. I usually feel good.” However, he also has lesser days. “Sometimes it gives me trouble while breathing, or it will cover my eyes.”

At school he was bullied in the past because he resembles werewolf, but now his classmates have accepted him as he is. When he comes outside his own village, he has a lot of attention.

But despite his setbacks, he remains optimistic. “When I grow up, I want to be a policeman,” he says. “With the money I earn, I can take care of my parents. They have done a lot for me.”
