A new corona variant has been registered in Africa, according to the African health authority, Africa CDC. The variant was discovered in Angola among travelers from Tanzania, the head of Africa CDC, John Nkengasong, announced at a press conference today.
The new variant shows up to 40 mutations. This is certainly concerning, Nkengasong said.
Tanzania has not provided data on the number of corona cases in the East African country since the middle of last year.
The recently deceased president of Tanzania, John Magufuli, only introduced corona restrictions late, which are relatively light.
