Nigeria: Four dead, eight wounded as suicide bombers hit Borno mosque

No fewer than four people died and another eight were injured on Sunday, 22nd April, in a suicide bomber attack on mosque in Bama local government of Borno state.

According to Nigerian news agency (NAN) that reported the incident, that the attack took place four weeks after thousands of displaced people were resettled in the community.

Chairman of the Board, Mr. Baba-Shehu Gulumba, confirmed the incident to Nan that four people were killed in the attack early in the morning.

Gulumba revealed that two young suicide bombers, a male and female, infiltrated a mosque at Bama-Dina quarters and blew up improvised explosive devices (IEDs) attached to their bodies.

He explained that the incident occurred around 5:00 am, when Muslims faithful to the morning prayer.

Gulumba said three people died instantly while another died later in the specialized hospital, Maiduguri, adding that the injured also referred to the hospital for treatment.

The president noted that the state government, together with the army, police and other security agencies, had deployed personnel and built trenches to strengthen security in the city.

He said: “We have limited travel from 6:30 in the city and called on people to comply with the restraining order.”

Gulumba underscored the government’s willingness to continue the resettlement exercise, noting that the attack would not affect its implementation.
