The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has opened an investigation into corruption charges against Salisu Yusuf, deputy national coach of the super eagle team.
Yusuf, 56, was filmed receiving money from people pretending to be players’ agents.
In exchange for a sum of money, they asked him to select two players, whose names were not disclosed.
“It is true that the NFF has started a preliminary investigation into this case, at the request of its Ethics Committee,” according to the BBC communication officer at the Nigerian Football Federation, Ademola Olajire told the BBC.
“It’s a very sensitive issue, and a proper investigation is being demanded by football leaders, so far, there will be no further comments on it,” he added.
Salisu Yusuf, deputy of Germany’s Gernot Rohr, the Nigerian coach, rejects accusations of corruption.
“I accepted money that was given to me by one of the players’ agents,” he admitted, adding that it was US $750.
According to him, the money in question was a gift he thought he should pocket, and both players were selected because they deserved it.
Salisu Yusuf, coach of Nigeria’s Olympic team, says he has not violated FIFA’s and NFF’s donation rules.
