North Korea has warned the new administration of US President Joe Biden not to agitate the East Asian country if the United States “wants to sleep peacefully for the next four years”.
The state media in the communist dictatorship distributed statements about this by Kim Yo-jong, the sister of the current North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. That reports the South Korean news agency Yonhap. The US and South Korea started new joint military exercises last week.
In recent days, it has become known that Biden employees have been trying in recent weeks to connect with the North Korean regime to reduce the risk of escalation. However, the attempts came to nothing.
Temporary rapprochement
Under former US President Donald Trump, there was talk of a temporary rapprochement between the US and North Korea. There were also some much-discussed meetings between Trump and Kim Jong-un at the time. But since the failed summit in Hanoi, Vietnam, in February 2019, negotiations on the Pyongyang nuclear program have come to a dead end.
In particular, there is disagreement about the concessions North Korea should make in exchange for lifting international sanctions against the country.
