The Italian city of Bolzano has placed pillows on lampposts to protect pedestrians who are distracted by their smartphone. The protective cushions are part of a campaign to make people use their mobile phones more consciously.
The cushions ensure that you don’t bump your head against a pole, but want passers-by to surf to the website of the #staysmart campaign. With this, the province of South Tyrol wants to make its residents aware of how to use their smartphones in a smart way.
There is also a website with tips, such as not using your smartphone while driving. Other tips are to switch it off at night and during meals. “Make sure you don’t become a social zombie,” it sounds. “But return to ‘socializing’ in the real world, with the people around us.”
