A 10-year-old boy was injured today after a shark grabbed him from a fishing boat. The incident occurred some three miles off the coast of northwestern Tasmania in Australia.
The shark dragged the boy out of the boat. When the father jumped into the water to save the boy, the animal ran off. The child is injured in his arm, head, and chest, the emergency services of the Australian state reported.
The boy, wearing a life jacket, was admitted to the hospital. His condition is stable, according to the emergency service.
Shark attacks are exceptional in Tasmania, and it is the fourth shark attack this month in Australia. There were already ten incidents this year.
On Tuesday, a woman was seriously injured in an attack on an island near the Great Barrier Reef. She was there to make a documentary about sharks. On her day off, she was attacked by a shark.
On Saturday, a 15-year-old boy was killed in a shark attack while surfing near Grafton in the east of the country.
