A young Somali man who married two women on the same day said that he would encourage other men to do the same.
Bashir Mohamed said he had been with the two women for about eight months before they were proposed for marriage.
“I used to invite them to my house,” he told BBC Somali.
“I told them openly that I loved them and they were satisfied. I decided to marry them the same day to avoid any form of jealousy.”
“I will encourage other men to do the same, if they can afford it,” he added.
According to Mohamed, polygamy is not prohibited in Somalia, but it is unusual to see a man marrying two women the same day.
Mohamed married Iqra and Nimo in the Sinai village on June 22nd.
