In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the villagers have discovered an unexpected treasury called Mountain of Gold. The viral video showed how the villagers were crudely excavating the golds.
A 30-second video shows hundreds of villagers digging for gold on top of a mountain. Another footage shows them separating the gold from the sands. The government has seized the said Mountain of Gold.
According to a Tweeter user that hared the footage wrote that: “Villagers has discovered a treasure mountain. The whole mountain is gold! People are digging and just taking the soil back to their homes, the gold to be washed and then smelted into dory”.
According to BBC news pidgin, the Congolese government has sent police to secure the site. But where is the “Mountain of Gold” located?
A BBC journalist in DRC said the mountain is located in Birava village, 35km north of Bukavu. According to the same source, the government has deployed police in the area to restore order and recover the gold that the villagers have dug.
Who discovered the place or how the villagers got known about the treasury is not yet clear for the moment.
Although the Democratic Republic of Congo has rich reserves of minerals like cobalt, diamonds, copper, and gold, this African country’s citizens remain among the world’s poorest.
