Popular female Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, has split from Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records production studio, but the good news is that it has not been done in a confrontational way.
The 39-year-old recently signed a contract with Universal Music Group, an American music company and a world leader in music-based entertainment.
From her real name Tiwatope Savage, she is one of the great female artists currently in Nigeria. She joined Mavin records in 2012. At that time, she released award-winning songs, with singers such as Wizkid, Ex-Psquare Rudeboy, Don Jazzy, and A Few Others.
While at Mavin, Tiwa Savage released two studio albums; Once Upon A Time (2013) and RED (2015) have songs like Eminado, Wanted, My Darlin.
In an Instagram post, Mavin Record boss Don Jazzy described Tiwa Savage as a source of inspiration and promised her that her position as Mavin’s First Lady would be hers forever.
He wrote, “Our dear Tiwatope. We have Mavin Records, we would like to say a very big thank you for being a great source of inspiration for all of us, a friend, a sister. It’s an epic journey with you and we are very proud of what we have accomplished together. As you begin this new chapter of life, we want you to know that we are solidly behind you and can not wait for the whole world to see what we have always believed you can be.”
“Your status as Mavin’s first lady will always be there because we do not intend to fill this position to anyone. We love you from the bottom of our hearts and implore GOD’s blessings to continue to follow you. Amennnn.”
Her singing achievements include an MTV Europe Music Award, an MTV Africa Music Award, two The Headies Awards, a Channel O Music Video Award, a Nigeria Music Video Award, and two City People Entertainment Awards.
In 2018, Tiwa Savage made history as the first woman to win the Best African Artist Award at the MTV European Music Awards.
That same year, she became the first African woman to perform a sold-out concert at the London Indig02. In December 2018, Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin selected Tiwa Savage to perform alongside Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, and Jay Z at the Global Citizen Festival in Johannesburg, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Nelson Mandela.
The singer described the accord as a “new era” for her and for her musical career.
Congratulations Tiwa Savage!!
