The head of the private nursing home in the American Phoenix, where a woman gave birth while in a deep coma for 14 years, has resigned yesterday. That is what the hospital has let itself know. The woman was raped and gave birth to a healthy boy at the end of last year. The police have opened an investigation.
The resignation of Bill Timmons was accepted by the full board of Hacienda HealthCare, as can be read in the statement. According to a spokesperson for Hacienda, Timmons was CEO for 28 years. The former CEO was no longer available by telephone last night, reports The New York Times.
“Horrible situation”
The board of directors will accept “nothing less than full responsibility for this horrible situation, an unprecedented incident that has shocked all those involved – from the victim and the family to all Hacienda employees –” it sounds. The board of directors fully cooperates with the police.
Sources say to the local branch of ABC that the staff never noticed that the woman – who almost drowned 14 years ago and has been in a coma since then – was pregnant. It was alarmed when it heard the woman moaning.
Reports on the Medicare website indicate that the health inspection in 2017 rated the hospital as “below average”. The Centres for Medicare & Medicaid Services even called the quality of care for residents “far below average”.
Hacienda specializes in care for people with intellectual disabilities. Data from the state show that some patients have been staying in the hospital for decades.
