10 verses on the importance of seeking to please God and pleasing him!

The purpose of every Christian’s life can be summed up in this phrase: to do His perfect will in order to please him. Every day that God does, we must strive to please him. Many verses of the Bible encourage us to do so: here is a selection!

1) Romans 12:1

“I therefore urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to offer up your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which will be reasonable worship on your part.”

2) 2 Corinthians 5:9

“That is also why we strive to please him, whether we remain in this body or leave it.”

3) Colossians 1:9-10

“Therefore we also, from the day we were informed, have not ceased to pray to God for you, and to ask that you be filled with the knowledge of his will, in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, to walk worthily of the Lord and to be fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in all good works and growing in the knowledge of God.

4) 1 Thessalonians 2:4

“(..) As God has judged us worthy to entrust the Gospel to us, so we speak, not as if to please men, but to please God, who searches our hearts.”

5) Romans 14:17-18

“For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace and joy, through the Holy Spirit. He who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved of by men.”

6) Proverbs 11:20

“The wicked in heart are an abomination to the Lord, but those whose way is blameless are pleasing to him.”

7) Hebrews 11:6

“Now without faith it is impossible to please him; for he who draws near to God must believe that God exists, and that he is the rewarder of those who seek him.”

8) Romans 8:8

“Those who live according to the flesh cannot please God.”

9) Ephesians 5:8-10

“Once you were darkness and now you are light in the Lord. Walk like children of light! For the fruit of light consists of all kinds of goodness, justice and truth. Examine what is pleasing to the Lord.”

10) 1 Thessalonians 4:1

“Besides, brothers, since you have learned from us how you should conduct yourself and please God, and this is what you are doing, we pray and conjure you in the name of the Lord Jesus to walk in this regard from progress to progress.”
