Britney Spears (38) will have to be patient. The American pop singer went to court to regain control of her own life, but the coronavirus throws a wrong spanner in the works. As a result, she will have to relinquish power until at least August.
Since Britney’s public collapse in 2007, the singer doesn’t have much to stir when it comes to her own life. Father Jamie Spears and lawyer Andrew Wallet were appointed curators at the time and had full control of the star. Until recently, because the relationship between daddy Spears and Britney is shaky.
This led to the appointment of Jodi Montgomery, an experienced celebrity curator. Although Britney Spears tries to regain full control in court, it will have to wait. Because of the coronavirus outbreak, the upcoming hearing was postponed to August, so the singer will undoubtedly have no say until then.
As a curator, Montgomery takes care of a whole range of aspects of Spears’ life. She decides which bodyguards and health care providers are employed, but also has full access to Britney’s health record. She forms a direct line with the doctors and is allowed to make decisions that would benefit the singer’s condition. She also manages the million dollar fortune of the fallen star.
Ban
Britney Spears’s guardianship was changed in September 2019, after his father, Jamie, was accused of mistreatment. Kevin Federline, Britney’s ex-husband and father of their two children, reported it to the police when son Sean confessed to a scuffle with his grandfather after an argument.
Father Spears was banned from contacting his grandchildren, and for a moment, it looked as if Britney would lose her children altogether, but that fear did not materialize. “Kevin wants his sons to keep in touch with their mother,” Federline’s lawyer told People.
The relationship between Britney and Jamie has been raising questions for some time now. For example, last year, she was probably admitted to a rehab clinic against her will after she took her first steps to regain control of her own life.
Fans speculated that this wasn’t Jamie’s father’s intention and that he, therefore, made it appear that his daughter’s mental state was deteriorating again. When it became known that Britney Spears had checked into a rehab clinic, the hashtag #FreeBritney exploded on the internet.
A source at Britney’s attorney revealed that “Britney absolutely didn’t want to go to rehab.” When mother Lynne then licked some tweets with theories from fans, it was considered a confirmation of the facts.
Mama Spears already wrote a book in 2008 that contained a lot of hefty claims against her ex-husband. In the end, father Jamie and lawyer Wallet themselves relinquished their control over Britney.
