The corruption trial of former and detained South African President Jacob Zuma has been postponed again.
As Zuma’s health is under investigation in a prison hospital, the High Court of the city of Pietermaritzburg set Tuesday 9 September as the new starting date.
In addition, the court is considering having one of its self-selected doctors examine whether the 79-year-old former head of state is fit enough for a trial
Zuma faces charges of corruption, money laundering, and deception in connection with a multi-billion dollar military deal. He denies it but faces a prison sentence of up to 25 years. He has repeatedly succeeded in delaying the trial.
Protests by his supporters have quickly sparked large-scale riots, with at least 337 officially killed.
