The Nigerian Islamist group Boko Haram has started using drones, the army says. This information clearly shows that jihadists are using increasingly sophisticated means to gather intelligence on troop movements.
In a statement, the army said it had noticed “militant movements” from the militants, including “the increased use of drones against our defensive positions”. And the strengthening of its ranks by foreign fighters.
“These powerful threats force us to continually review our operations,” the statement added.
This is the first time the army has confirmed that Boko Haram has strengthened its capabilities by acquiring drones.
