Emir of Dubai had two of his children abducted and threatened wife

A British court has confirmed that the Emir of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid al-Maktoum, was indeed responsible for the abduction of two of his daughters. His sixth wife, Haya Bint al-Hussein, had filed the case in Britain after her flight to London, along with the two children they had together.

In her own words, Princess Haya Dubai had fled for fear of her life. She accused him of kidnapping, forced return, torture, and an intimidation campaign. The British High Court decided that those allegations become “established truth”.

The case, which started in the last summer vacation, revolved around the custody of the children. Following that case, the court had published a “Fact-Finding Judgment,” and Sheikh Mohammed had tried to keep that decision out of the public domain. The resistance of the Emir now appears to have been in vain.

Captivity

The two abducted daughters are children of one of the Emir’s previous marriages. They are Shamsa (now 38), who fled the estate in the British town of Surrey in 2000. She was arrested in Cambridgeshire and is said to have been given a sedative. She was then transferred to Dubai, where she still lives in captivity. Cambridgeshire police were denied access to Dubai to investigate Shamsa’s abduction.

Shamsa’s sister Latifa (34) tried to escape in 2002 and 2018. After the first attempt, she remained locked up for three years, and today she is still in house arrest after her second attempt to escape. In a video, Latifa testified about severe physical abuse, and the High Court judged that video as credible.

Princess Haya is a half-sister of the current king of Jordan and married the Emir in 2004. The seventy, billionaire, prime minister of the United Arab Emirates since 2006 and owner of the Godolphin horse stable, is the father of 23 children with several women. Together with Haya, he has a child of 7 and one of 11.

The woman long believed Mohammed’s version of the facts, but she expressed her concerns early last year. She had also started a relationship with her British bodyguard. In the following weeks, a gun was placed on her pillow twice, with a safety catch disabled.
