Guinea reopens its border with Senegal

Guinean authorities on Wednesday reopened borders with neighboring countries by reopening the land border with Senegal to the movement of goods and people, media reported.

The National Committee of the Rally for Development (CNRD), headed by Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, who will be sworn in on October 1 as President of the transition, announced Tuesday evening in a statement that the land border will be open on Wednesday.

Recalled that Guinea-Senegalese borders have been closed for almost a year for “internal security reasons”.

Guinea had decided to close its borders with neighboring countries after the putsch that overthrew President Alpha Condé on September 5. Some land borders had been closed for months.

The CNRD quickly reopened the air borders. Since then, it has gradually opened up the land borders of Sierra Leone, Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, and Guinea-Bissau.

In statements to the media, Mamadou Baïlo Diallo, mayor of Koundara, a Guinean town close to the border, confirmed the reopening of Guinea’s borders with Senegal yesterday Wednesday.
