How to deal with anxiety as a Christian
You may experience anxiety due to your belief in Christianity, and you may also have the impression that your own people do not understand you. Anxiety can be a concern for one’s mental health and spiritual wellbeing.
Anxiety is a common mental health condition that causes a person to feel afraid, worried, and nervous, to the point that it interferes with their day-to-day life and causes them distress.
The person can develop an obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and panic attacks resulting from it. Anxiety disorders are the most frequent mental disease in the United States, according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. These illnesses impact 40 million persons in the United States aged 18 and older, which accounts for 18.1% of the population each year.
Even though anxiety disorders are very treatable, only 36.9% of people who suffer from them get treatment for their condition. This is such a tragic statistic. Genes, brain chemistry, personality, and experiences in one’s life can all play a role in developing anxiety-related problems.
How to deal with anxiety?
As Christians, we have a responsibility to realize that our bodies, spirits, and minds are all related in some way and that the physical and spiritual struggles we wage day and night have the potential to have an impact on our minds and our souls.
Because we serve a God who is a healer and has the power to cure anxiety, we are obligated to give him all our thoughts and lives while also seeking professional help.
According to what is written in Philippians 4:6,7 in the Bible, “Make your requests known to God in everything, but do it through prayer, supplication, and thankfulness. And the peace of God, which is above human understanding, will guard both your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
The first step is to commit your life to following Jesus Christ, and the next step is to work on keeping your thoughts focused on him and the promises he has made. ( John 14: 2-3 ).
“Think about these things, brethren: anything that is true, anything that is honorable, anything that is right, anything that is pure, anything that is lovely, anything that is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, consider all of these things. Put into practice all you have been taught, received, heard, and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you ( Philippians 4: 8-9 ).
Devote some time to prayer and solicit prayer from others
It is essential for us Christians to understand and acknowledge the fact that, although we can sense the rush of adrenaline coursing through our veins and hear voices that are not picked up by others, we do have a secret weapon available to us in the form of prayer.
Even when war rages in our minds and bodies, we can hand our struggles to God and center our attention on Christ. We can also ask for the prayer of anointing, and we can ask our fellow Christians to pray for us with a unified thought. Both of these options are available to us.
You can get the sensation that someone or something is attempting to murder you, but you should be aware that feelings are deceptions that you should not put any stock in. The feelings of terror, pain, and imminent doom might leave you completely drained, but the gospel can serve as an anchor for us in times like these.
The gospel tells us that God chose us before the creation of this world and that he is with us. He doesn’t want us to suffer, and he can heal us.
God did not create us to toil away at a job and bring in money around the clock. He created us in such a way that we are protected and educated. To be tranquil is to find rest knowing God is present. Each and every day in front of our Lord, we are required to be silent. It involves not being busy, not worrying, and making our time with Him a priority while also paying attention to what our bodies require. We need plenty of rest, exercise, get a good night’s sleep, and consume some good foods.
