The fortune of MacKenzie Bezos, the ex-wife of the world’s richest man, Jeff Bezos, reached $62.3 billion in one week, reports Forbes. She is now the richest woman in the United States.
Between July 2 and July 9, while stock market indices remained mostly stable, the actions of online retailers soared, reports Forbes. The already astronomical value of Amazon increased by 10%, bringing the fortune of its founder and CEO Jeff Bezos to $188.2 billion (an increase of $16.2 billion).
His ex-wife, MacKenzie Bezos, is now the richest woman in the United States, with $ 62.3 billion. After their divorce last July, she received 25% of Amazon shares from her ex-husband (4% of the company’s shares) worth $36 billion.
Since then, her fortune has almost doubled as the pandemic has disrupted traditional retailing.
L’Oréal remains richer
Soaring Amazon stock prices pushed her fortune beyond that of Walmart heiress Alice Walton, who was previously the wealthiest woman in the United States.
The only woman on the planet more wealthy than MacKenzie Bezos is the heiress of L’Oréal, Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, who has a net worth of 64 billion dollars.
MacKenzie may soon outperform it, however, as some analysts expect Amazon stocks to continue to climb before the July 23 quarterly results are announced.
