Kensington Palace calls in help from Instagram: “Too many sexist comments”
The staff at Kensington Palace spend many hours every week filtering sexist, racist and other offensive comments on social media. These are mainly addressed to the Duchess of Cambridge Kate and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.
According to Hello! verbal and written violence is not only focused on (female) members of the British royal house, but also against people who post positive comments about the royals on social media.
Kensington Palace says the problem has become so big that they have called in the help of Instagram. That company has special teams that help account holders solve these problems.
“We have been monitoring the comments on social media right from the start. We can block certain words, but they are creatively worked around by users. Every case of threat of violence is indicated to the police, users are blocked. It is labour intensive and time-consuming, but there is no other way to control it,” said Kensington Palace.
