New EU sanctions against Russia in the making
The European Union is coming up with new sanctions against Russia in response to the recent escalation of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. According to EU foreign secretary Federica Mogherini, EU ministers reached an agreement on this matter on Monday.
The list of persons whose assets are frozen in Europe and who are not allowed to travel to the EU is being extended. Formally, the EU Council of Ministers must give it another blow. Preparations for this will take place in the coming days.
The Ukrainian Foreign Minister had already asked the EU in December for more sanctions. The focus should be on Russian ports and those responsible for those ports, according to Pavel Klimkin.
At the end of November, Russian navy ships used Ukrainian ships to sail via the Kerch Strait to the Sea of Azov. A total of 24 sailors were arrested. They were transferred to Moscow.
