23 soldiers of the Nigerian army are missing after being ambushed by the Boko Haram jihadist group in the north-east of the country, a military source and a source close to pro-government militias announced it on Saturday, reports Lefigaro.
“So far, we have no news of 23 people. There are five officers and 18 soldiers among them,” an AFP officer said in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State.
“They have been attacked by Boko Haram fighters in the village of Balagallaye in the Boboshe area outside of Bama,” he said on condition of anonymity.
Earlier, on Friday, the military received information that “a hundred terrorists” had gathered in Boboshe. The soldiers then mobilized to fight them. “Only three vehicles managed to return to Bama, the other eight and many more soldiers are still missing. We do not know their fate, “said the officer. “We lost eight vehicles. It’s a lot”.
