Over 300 nominees for Nobel Peace Prize, also Greta Thunberg nominated again
This year, 317 candidates have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, including 210 personalities and 107 organizations. The Norwegian Nobel Committee reported this on its website on Wednesday. Nominations included climate activist Greta Thunberg and the climate movement Fridays for Future.
Among others, politicians, academics and former winners of the Nobel Prize may nominate candidates. The names are kept secret, but two Swedish MPs have already announced that they have nominated climate activist Greta Thunberg and the climate movement Fridays for Future. Thunberg was already a favorite in 2019, but the prize went to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

Thunberg was already a favorite in 2019, but the prize then went to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. The number of candidates this year is the fourth highest but is well below the 376 nominees of 2016.
The winner of the Nobel Prize is traditionally announced at the beginning of October. The award ceremony takes place on December 10, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death, who created the prize.
