Series of earthquakes shake Greek volcanic island Nisyros

Several earthquakes have occurred in the region of the Dodecanese archipelago in the southeastern Aegean Sea. The strongest quake occurred this morning with a magnitude of 5.3.

The center of the quake was below the seafloor southwest of the volcanic island of Nisyros, the Athens Geodynamic Institute reports. Geologists cannot yet say whether this series of earthquakes is related to the active volcano

of Nisyros.

The earthquakes were felt throughout southern Aegean, including Crete and the tourist islands of Rhodes and Kos. There are no reports of damage or casualties, Greek state television (ERT) reported.
