Several voting machines destroyed by fire at the CENI

A number of electronic voting machines were destroyed in a warehouse by fire, in Kinshasa, according to the electoral commission of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The CENI is trying to determine the cause of the fire.

These machines are controversial because many think they could be used to rig the vote and a number of opposition candidates have asked for them to be banned.

The electoral commission declares for the moment that the electoral process will continue.

Elections in this vast country are scheduled for 23 December.
