The top 10 largest cities in Cape Verde
Cape Verde is a small string of islands lost in the middle of the Atlantic and lies off the African coast. As the famous singer Cesaria Evora liked to call it, this small country comprises ten volcanic islands with combined land of 4,033 square kilometers. Just over half a million people inhabit it.
1. Praia
This city is the capital of Cape Verde and the largest city in the country, located in Santiago’s southern part. Alone, it brings together nearly a fifth of the population.
2. Mindelo
This city, located on the island of Sao Vicente, is one of the largest cities in Cape Verde. The city of Mindelo is undoubtedly the soul of the country and the cultural capital of the country. Moreover, the eternal ambassador of this small African country that we mentioned in the introduction, the singer Césaria Evora, was born in Mindelo.
3. Santa Maria
This city is one of the top touristic places in Cape Verde. The town of Santa Maria locates on the south coast, about 20km south of the island capital Espargos and 16km south of the Amilcar Cabral International Airport.
4. Assomada
It is one of the largest cities in Cape Verde. The town of Assomada locates on the Sotavento Island of Santiago in Cape Verde. This town has the particularity of being in the center of the island at a little over 330 meters above sea level.
The small town of Assomada has two points of interest. The first is the Nossa Senhora De Fatima, Church and the second is the Museu da Tabanca. A museum that has today become a cultural center.
5. Porto Novo
This large city locates in the southeast of the island of Santo Antao. As its name suggests, the city of Porto Novo is a city whose activity focuses on the sea.

This town locates on the island of Sal, an island in the northeast of the Archipelago. This city which is the most populated on the island of Sal is also the locality that hosts one of the international airports of Cape Verde.
10. Calheta de Sao Miguel
This city, located on the northeast coast of the island of Santiago, is 31 kilometers from the capital. Despite its relatively modest size, it is one of the largest cities in Cape Verde.
