The first known human

Footprints in what is now White Sands National Park in New Mexico, the earliest known human footprints in the Americas, may be seen at the bottom of an ancient lake.

According to the experts, the footprints, which are between 23,000 and 21,000 years old, provide compelling evidence for early human migration to the New World.

Scientists discovered 60 human footprints (mainly from children and teens), as well as mammoth and dog-like predator tracks.

The date of the earliest human arrival in the Americas has long been a source of contention. Archaeologists have long hypothesized that individuals from the Clovis ancient civilization were the first to travel to the Americas, based on stone tools reaching back around 13,000 years.
