A Russian soldier was given tea and food by Ukrainians
Gripping images have gone viral on social media of a young Russian soldier being lovingly taken care of by a group of Ukrainians after he surrenders. When he gets his mother on the phone, he breaks down.
The footage shows locals offering the Russian soldier – who had been ordered to invade Ukraine – tea and food. It is striking how young he is, like so many Russian soldiers who the Ukrainian troops have already captured.
“It’s not the fault of these young men. They don’t know why they are here. They have dated maps, they are lost,” said a man out of view of the camera. It is not known where exactly in Ukraine the images were taken. To get the latest stories, install our app here.
The soldier then gets a pat on the back from a Ukrainian woman who tells him that “everything will be okay”. Another woman gives him the opportunity to video call his mother.
