Brazilian war veteran (99) recovered from Covid-19
A 99-year-old war veteran is the oldest Brazilian to date who has recovered from the coronavirus. That’s what the local media are reporting.
Ermando Armelindo Piveta left the hospital on Tuesday in the capital Brasilia in a wheelchair, under loud cheers from doctors and nurses. He spent eight days in the hospital, where doctors were extra worried because of his advanced age.
“This is a bigger win for me than winning the war,” Piveta told local media. “This is like the plague of 1918. It affects not one place, but the whole world,” he referred to the Spanish flu.
The Brazilian Ministry of Health said Piveta is the oldest person in the country to conquer Covid-19. In World War II, the man fought in Africa along with the Allies.
