Italy authorized home-grown cannabis
From now on, Italians are allowed to grow cannabis at home on a small scale for their use. The Italian Supreme Court has decided this. The ruling of the court dates from earlier this month but has only now been announced during a debate in parliament.
The decision led to political division. The conservative parties are against any legalization of all types of drugs. “Drugs cause harm, we remain against growing or selling in stores,” said Matteo Salvini, former Minister of the Interior and Deputy Prime Minister of the right-wing Lega party in response. But a senator from the ruling 5-star movement greeted the verdict with great approval.
The use of cannabis is legal under certain conditions since the Italian parliament adopted a law on it in 2016.
