‘Jerusalema’ by South African duo Master KG & Nomcebo, with Nigerian rapper Burna Boy on the remix, makes a solid jump from 8 to 1 to become the fifth number 1 hit of 2020.
A few weeks ago, a group of young people from Angola went viral on YouTube and TikTok, thanks to their funny dance on the song ‘Jerusalema’. Thanks to their genius, their number is now number 1 in the ultra-top in several countries.
This new ‘Macarena’ or ‘Indian dance’ seems to be in the making. The song is called ‘Jerusalema’. It’s South African, and you dance on it with your feet and some exotic hip movements.
On TikTok and YouTube, it is a worldwide hype with over 88 million views, and now it is also climbing charts to the top. And that for an eight-month-old gospel song, which was recently picked up by Angolan youth.
If you run ‘Jerusalema’ through Google, you immediately get to see dozens of videos in which people in groups – with mouth mask and at a distance of 1.5 meters from each other – dance to the cheerful tune.
The hype has now become a symbol of solidarity during the corona crisis: a ray of hope in the midst of all the misery.
