No panic! A suspected case of Covid-19 in Nigeria tests negative

There was a panic in the Lagos state of Nigeria after a Chinese was suspected of having Covid-19. The authority concern has proven that the alleged patient is Coronavirus-free after a series of tests.

The Lagos state government has confirmed that a patient who underwent a series of tests after being admitted to Reddington Ikeja Hospital due to fears of Coronavirus, tested negative for the deadly disease.

The State Health Ministry, in its earlier tweet, stated that the Chinese citizen was isolated at the Mainland Hospital. He underwent different tests, and his blood samples taken for investigation.

The early tweets read: “The attention of LSMOH has been drawn to news making the rounds, about a suspected case of #COVID?19”. The suspected person was at “Reddington Lagos”. And “ACTION TAKEN BY LSMOH,” it sounds.

The health ministry further stated that they “are currently investigating”, the “patient Isolated at Mainland Hospital”. For more clarity, the “blood samples taken for investigation” and “we await the result”, the ministry concluded.

LSMOH has words for those living in Lagos state! “As we call for calm, we urge Lagosians not to panic as there are no confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Lagos as there are today”. “We urge citizens to disregard any information on COVID-19 that did not come from any government parastatals.

In an update on the incident, the Lagos State Government announced that the Chinese citizen had tested negative after a series of tests. The State Health Commissioner, Professor Akin Abayomi, also stated that the probability of Covid-19 infection in the alleged patient was very low.

The tweets read; “Lagos State Government has affirmed that the Chinese citizen presented at the Reddington Hospital, Ikeja yesterday on suspicion of being infected with Coronavirus, has tested negative.”

“Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi made this known through a press statement today, noting that the likelihood of COVID-19 infection in this particular patient was very low…. and the conclusion of investigations and sophisticated testing confirmed that no case of Coronavirus exists in Lagos State till date.”
