Former President Barack Obama believes that Donald Trump is partly responsible for the outbreak of violence at the Capitol. According to Obama, his successor prompted the people. In a statement, Obama points to the baseless lies by Trump about the result of the presidential election. Trump’s former adversary Hillary Clinton calls the Capitol Stormers “domestic terrorists”.
Obama calls the storming of the Capitol “a disgrace” for the United States. “But we would be kidding if this comes as a surprise.”
The former president calls on the Republican leaders to make a responsible choice. ‘They can keep going down this road and keep lighting the fires. Or they can choose reality and take the first steps to put out the fires. They can choose America.’ Obama also praises the Republicans who loudly condemned Wednesday’s events.
Hold to account
The Trump supporters who stormed the US parliament building in Washington to prevent Congress from setting the election results are “domestic terrorists,” said former presidential candidate and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The former first lady states on Twitter that the culprits should be brought to trial.
‘Today, domestic terrorists have attacked the very foundation of our democracy: the peaceful transfer of power after free elections,’ said Clinton, who faced Donald Trump in the 2016 election. ‘We need to restore the rule of law and hold them to account. Democracy is fragile. Our leaders must live up to their responsibility to protect it.’
Former president
Her husband and former president Bill Clinton also condemns the parliament building’s storming, which he calls an “unprecedented attack” on the country.
Like fellow former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, Clinton is lashing out at outgoing President Donald Trump, who, according to Clinton, has instigated the violence that killed at least one woman.
‘Today, we have seen an unprecedented attack on our Capitol, our Constitution, and our country,” Clinton said in a statement. The massive attack on the parliament building, according to the Arkansas Democrat, is the result of “four years of toxic politics” and deliberate deception.
‘The match was lit by Donald Trump and those who most fanatically facilitated him, including many in Congress, to reverse the election results he lost,’ said the 74-year-old former president.
