Train derails in the Congo: almost 40 dead and many wounded
In Congo, almost forty people were killed yesterday after a train was derailed. According to local media, the train ended up next to the tracks between Kindu, in the eastern province of Maniema. And Kamina in Haut-Lomani. The train was on its way to Lubumbashi in the south. There were also many injured.
The train of the national railway company SNCC transported dozens of passengers, reports the news site actualite.cd. According to the Africa website of the French-language newspaper La Libre, there are more than forty victims.
The accident is due to excessive speed and the poor state of the rail infrastructure, say different sources. The regional director of SNCC is talking about a “traffic accident” again. He promises an investigation into the cause of the disaster.
