Transgender politician missing in India: perhaps abducted
A transgender who has applied for the elections in an Indian state has been missing since Wednesday. The local police are afraid that Chandramukhi Muvvala has been kidnapped.
The 32-year-old is the only transgender who participates in the elections in the southern state of Telangana. It was only her second day of campaigning. Muvvala disappeared minutes after leaving her home, a police spokesman said.
Muvala wants there to be less violence against transgender people and is committed to this. In India this group is often shunned, even though there are about two million transgenders living in the country. The police say that special teams have been deployed to find the Muvala. The state elections are on 7 December.
