Trump: US and China are working closely together to fight coronavirus
The United States and China are working closely together to fight against the coronavirus pandemic, said US President Donald Trump after a telephone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping. After the discussion, the Chinese president also pointed to the need for unity between the two countries against Covid-19.
Trump tweeted that he and Xi Jinping had an outstanding conversation and discussed in great detail the coronavirus that rages across large parts of our planet. “China has been through much & has developed a strong understanding of the virus. We are working closely together. Much respect,” said Trump in his familiar style on Twitter. Until recently, the US president still called the virus the “Chinese virus”.
Unite
Xi Jinping stated after the phone call that, despite their rivalry, both countries should unite against the virus. “China is willing to continue to share its experiences and information with the United States without reservation,” said the Chinese president on state channel CCTV. The message is a sign of reconciliation following a verbal polemic between Beijing and Washington.
As of Thursday, the United States has had the most confirmed infections with the virus worldwide, according to data from researchers at Johns Hopkins University. The US has more than 83,000 infections, followed by China, with more than 81,000 cases and Italy with more than 80,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus.
