A coup failed in Sudan

On September 21, a coup failed in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum. State media reported adding that the situation is under control.

Sudan foiled an attempted coup on Tuesday, state media in the country said, referring to a member of the Sovereignty Council. The situation is currently under control, he added.

“Everything is under control. The revolution is victorious,” announced Mohamed Al Faki Suleiman, member of the Sovereignty Council who has been in power since the 2019 military coup that overthrew President Omar al Bashir.

Mohamed Al Faki Suleiman also called on the Sudanese to protect the political transition.

A source in the cabinet of ministers confirmed to the state agency SUNA that the perpetrators of the coup attempt had been arrested, and an investigation was opened.

Some Embassies in Sudan have taken additional measures to ensure the safety of their employees following reports of the coup. The current situation is calm in the area of the diplomatic mission.

Recall that Sunday, September 12, 2021, the Sudanese army has denied the information relayed by many newspapers in this East African country, reporting that it would have foiled a coup attempt planned by officers.
