Benin: Fire at DANTOPKA Market (West Africa’s largest market)

In the night from Sunday to Monday the dantokpa market was hit by a fire. The most affected area is that of grain sales.

Huge financial damage has been recorded, but no loss in human life. The Minister of the Interior and the Prefect of the Coastal Department visited the scene.

It must be said that this is not the first fire that hits this market. On October 31, 2015, a truck carrying adulterated gasoline was at the base of a fire that ravaged more than 700 stores.

The government of President Patrice Talon also plans to relocate this market, which is considered the largest in West Africa.
