First openly gay US secretary proudly shows brand new twins

On Saturday, Pete Buttigieg, the first openly gay US secretary, and his husband Chasten Glezman Buttigieg introduced their new twins on social media. In August, they had already announced that they had become parents without giving more details.

A black-and-white photo, posted to Twitter and Instagram, shows the two men smiling, face to face, in what looks like a hospital room, each with a baby wrapped in a cloth.

“We are delighted to welcome Penelope Rose and Joseph August Buttigieg to our family,” Pete Buttigieg wrote. “Chasten, and I are beyond grateful for all the good wishes we have received since we announced we became parents,” the 39-year-old transport minister tweeted.

Two years ago, the general public became acquainted with Buttigieg when he ran for the Democratic nomination in the 2020 presidential election. It was current President Joe Biden who eventually won that nomination.
