How the pursuit of your potential can become a burden

The idea of unlocking your own potential always sounds inspiring. This is not only a path to self-realization (consider it success), but also freedom. Go beyond the imposed limits, become whatever you want, get what you deserve. Don’t exist on autopilot; live consciously. I want to believe in such simple and attractive slogans. But once you set out on the path to such desired changes, there is a feeling of forgery. Opportunity turns into pressure.

You can no longer just develop professionally, intellectually, or personally, but literally must. Work on yourself (usually for someone else), become more effective, look for and realize opportunities. Can’t you become the best version of yourself every day? Experience a sense of guilt and shame. A traitor to ideals, a weakling, and a coward. The most amazing thing is that people completely and voluntarily accept such attitudes, which turn their lives into an eternal ordeal without rewards or prizes.

5 ways the pursuit of your potential can become a burden

1. Debt to potential

The concept of “enough” is excluded from this paradigm. In a global sense, you always remain unsatisfied. You don’t have enough ambitions, you haven’t earned enough, and you’re not growing fast enough. There’s only debt in excess, because you’re capable of more, have hidden resources, and don’t manage your time well. In such a system of views, there is absolutely no room for ordinary human desires and weaknesses. Even rest is perceived as a tool. Visit. A F R I N I K . C O M . For the full article. It’s a way to recover for a more productive tomorrow, a brain reboot.

What can we talk about if the concept of effective recreation has appeared, where there are norms, rules, and procedures? You can’t do anything in your free time. Desires and personal preferences must be aligned with the declared intentions. As a result, a person is deprived of even that small fraction of the freedom he previously possessed. Time is not scheduled by the minute; rather, you have to pretend to be constantly busy. However, this is no less exhausting than the actual activity.

This is how personality and life itself turn into a project. It remains to wait for the moment when you can make a presentation. Basically, there will be unrealistic plans, made-up or exaggerated achievements beyond recognition, and fantastic ambitions. But if at least someone responds with a word or gesture, it means that they have won applause. This will be the only reward.

2. Endless Race

The limits of your potential exist, but remain undefined for most of your life. This is a great breeding ground for speculation and self-deception. Perhaps everyone is capable of more than they have already achieved. However, not everyone can achieve everything. People have different abilities, starting points, and goals. It may sound surprising, but many people don’t need any development at all. They are already quite happy, at least satisfied with the situation.

If you decide to go on a treadmill, you risk getting into a closed system where you can always become a little faster, smarter, and more successful. This is partly true, but there is a question of price. Is life in the mode of eternal competition with oneself and a complete loss of peace really exactly what you should wish for? Growth is an abstract process that is difficult to measure, so it can go on for at least an eternity. The satisfaction of the achieved result is diluted by the bitter realization that now there is a new bar ahead.

3. Unfinished life

People who are obsessed with unlocking their potential and theories of personal growth sooner or later fall into a state where life feels incomplete. Or rather, it’s incomplete, but the meaning doesn’t change. Even if a person is objectively fine, he sees the opposite. It could have been better, bigger, and more spectacular. Or couldn’t it? There is no time to think about such a simple question. The course is strictly forward. Thus, the present is devalued, and the current moment becomes an appendage of the future. Instead of the thought “I’m living now”, the idea “I’m working on myself now” begins to dominate. Does success really look like an endless series of tasks, working without days off or breaks? There seems to be a clear discrepancy, a logical error, or a technical glitch somewhere. One day, in pursuit of unlocking your own potential, you will begin to look at yourself as a set of characteristics that can theoretically be improved. A very utilitarian, but frighteningly cold and completely inhuman approach.

4. Without the right to ordinariness

The culture of success does not tolerate any manifestations of ordinariness. It’s not enough for you to just work, live, and have your own joys. There is a definite obligation to strive for something more. Meanwhile, there is often no precise definition, not even a personal idea of what efforts are being made for. In a simplified form, everything is clear: more money, popularity, fame. In practice, everything usually looks like a chaotic tossing around. There’s a treasure trove of untold riches somewhere, that’s for sure. It remains to be found without tools and a map. There are also competitors everywhere. At least, that’s what it seems. Any delay is dangerous, and stopping is fatal.

5. A missed life

Unrealized potential, which may not have been there, is perceived as an unlived and definitely the best part of life. So many opportunities have been missed, and you still don’t dare consider yourself a full-fledged person? No one says such words directly, but it is this thesis that is hammered into the head. Smash yourself into a pancake, but get it all or die trying. The logic is perverse, but very clear. If you can do more, then every minute of peace is a terrible enemy. It’s wasted time. Hence the disturbing background. The feeling of not using yourself fully. However, this often does not lead to success, but to full-fledged depression. You don’t have to commit crimes to ruin your life. Sometimes it’s enough just not to love yourself, covering it with a bright screen, where the attributes of success are depicted in a frankly caricatured style.
