How to participate in the US visa lottery and citizens of which countries cannot apply

Every year, the registration for the “Immigrant Visa for Diversity Program” for the fiscal year will be held, but what are all requirements.

The U.S. Department of State always announced the registration period for the “Diversity Immigrant Visa Program” or “Visa Lottery” for the fiscal year.

Finally, you must have a valid passport number, country of issuance of the passport, and expiration date thereof.

The application must be completed in English and will be available from noon on the closing day. An important fact is that only the principal applicant must comply with the detailed requirements; that is, it is not necessary that their spouse and children also comply with them.

There is no minimum age to access, but it is recommended that the applicant be over 18 years old. The form is completed electronically, and registration is done only through the official website dvlottery.state.gov.

What data must be completed before submitting the application

  • Full name and surname.
  • Gender.
  • Date of birth.
  • City of birth.
  • Country of birth.
  • Country of eligibility for the Diversity Visa Program.

For the Diversity Visa Lottery, the following were incorporated:

  • Valid passport number, issuing country, and expiration date.
  • Digital photo of a recent visa (last six months) that meets the standards of United States visa photos.
  • Postal address.
  • Current country of residence.
  • Phone number (optional).
  • Email.
  • School level.
  • Current civil status.
  • The number of all-natural and/or adopted children, in addition to stepchildren.

Countries that do not participate in the visa lottery draw

The nations that sent 50,000 immigrants to the US in the last five years are excluded from the visa lottery. For that reason, they cannot apply. They are the following:

  • Bangladesh.
  • Brazil.
  • Canada.
  • China.
  • Colombia.
  • The Dominican Republic.
  • The Savior.
  • Haiti.
  • India.
  • Jamaica.
  • Mexico.
  • Nigeria.
  • Pakistan.
  • Filipinas.
  • South Korea.
  • United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland and its dependent territories).
  • Vietnam.

The State Department recommended not waiting until the last week of the registration period to enter. “A high demand can cause delays on the website. The law allows only one entry per person during each registration period. People with more than one entry will be disqualified,” he said.

The selection of the winners will be carried out randomly through software, and those who are chosen will have the opportunity to receive permanent residence visas in the US.
