Mass sexual abuse in South Sudan

Medecins Sans Frontiers (MSF) says there has been a wave of sexual violence against women. And girls in the past 10 days in northern southern Sudan.

MSF provided “emergency medical and psychosocial support to 125 raped, stolen. And battered women and girls in Rubkona County,” the NGO said in a statement.

This is up from 104 survivors of sexual violence who used MSF services in the first 10 months of the year. Some of the survivors are under 10, while others are over 65 years old. Their assailants robbed them of all their valuables including money, clothes and shoes. And destroyed their ration cards, preventing them from receiving food distributions.

MSF says the increase in attacks on women coincides with an increase in the number of displaced people seeking food assistance in the region.
