China never had so many billionaires as in 2020, the year the new coronavirus hit the world economy hard. The gap with the United States in terms of the super-rich is widening all the time. Earlier it was announced that Jack Ma is no longer leads the ranking of the richest Chinese.
The corona pandemic hit China as the first country in the world, the virus is said to come from a market in Wuhan. But the situation in the country recovered relatively quickly. China was one of the only ones that could also show economic growth in 2020.
According to Hurun magazine’s ranking, China (including Hong Kong) had 259 additional dollar billionaires last year, totalling 1,058. The US has “only” 696 billion billionaires, although the world’s two richest people (Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos) remain American.
Jack Ma from Alibaba is no longer the richest Chinese. The first place is now taken by Zhong Shanshan, active in bottling mineral water and good for a fortune of 85 billion dollars.
The numbers two and three are taken by the boss of Tencent (internet, video games) and ByteDance (owner of TikTok). Jack Ma is in fourth place with a net worth of 55 billion dollars.
