Ugandan star Bobi Wine charge for provoking president

Ugandan pop star and presidential candidate, Bobi Wine, has been accused of “annoying and ridiculing” President Yoweri Museveni. Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, was also accused of inciting violence.

The singer denies the charges. The facts go back to last year.

During a rally, Museveni’s convoy was rocked by opposition supporters. Bobi Wine is already facing treason charges for the incident and is currently on bail.

If found guilty, he and 35 other defendants could be sentenced to life imprisonment. This 37-year-old musician has been a house member for two years.

He presents himself as a champion of the poor and says he defends social justice and democracy. According to him, the accusations of the Ugandan president are all politically motivated to undermine his presidential ambitions. He intends to run against Museveni in the elections of 2021. The 74-year-old president has been in power since 1984 and is seeking a sixth term.
