This Swedish ‘family car’ is faster than a Bugatti Chiron

Most ordinary mortals associate the term ‘family car’ with a Renault Scénic or Volkswagen Passat during the week, but the Swedish businessman and carmaker Christian von Koenigsegg clearly maintain other standards

Koenigsegg, best known in car centers for his irresistible urge for speed records, has done it once again. This time, the small Swedish car manufacturer smashes the world with this Gemera, the very first hypercar for the entire family.

Koenigsegg emphasizes that it is not a so-called 2 + 2, but a fully-fledged family car, thanks to a 3-meter-long wheelbase and up-hinged hinged doors, two adults should fit in the back. The comfort of the occupants has also been taken into consideration, besides eight cup holders (four heated, four cooled) Koenigsegg even provides an inductive charger for smartphones, an audio installation with 11 speakers and on-board internet.

Four engines

Under the hood of the Swedish beauty is a plug-in hybrid powertrain, which links a heavily modified 2 liter three-cylinder 600 hp – the ‘Tiny Friendly Giant’ – to three electric motors. The cumulative power of the Gemera is an astounding 1,700 hp and 3,500 Nm, suitable for a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.9 seconds and a top speed of 400 km/h.

Although this Gemera on paper is capable of sweeping the floor with a Bugatti Chiron – at least, in the traditional spurt numbers –, if desired, it can also be sent utterly emission-free from A to B. Thanks to a 16.6 kWh battery, you have a pure electric driving range of around 50 kilometers, although the top speed, in that case, is limited to quite a sleep-inducing… 300 km/h. Did we mention that this is not an ordinary Toyota Corolla?
