R. Kelly’s third request for release was also rejected

A judge in Chicago also rejected the third request of R&B singer R. Kelly (53) for temporary release from captivity. The singer had asked that out of fear of getting infected with the coronavirus in Chicago jail, reports the Chicago Tribune.

Kelly proposed house arrest with an ankle bracelet and bail instead of the cell, but his request was again denied. Remarkably, another inmate, a member of a notorious Chicago street gang, was transferred to house arrest. He was said to be too much of a health risk for fellow inmates in the overcrowded prison.

R. Kelly’s previous requests were rejected because no one was infected with the coronavirus in that prison at the time.

Meanwhile, the virus has also broken out in Chicago federal prison. According to the Tribune, 500 detainees have been infected.

The singer of many hits is on remand. He has been charged with racketeering, sexual abuse, and possession of child pornography.

His case would initially be heard in July, but has been postponed to September due to the coronavirus.
