Ghanaian mum kills her two children, buries one with shredded banknotes

A 35-year-old woman, by the name of Adwoa Juliana, has been remanded in custody by the Ejura District Court for allegedly killing her two sons in Yeboa Akosua, a farming community near Ejura, in the Ashanti region, Ghana.

The court, chaired by Mr. Divine Kwaku Ahiadu, indicted the defendant, Adwoa Juliana, with two counts of murder and sent her back to appear on August 31, 2020. Her plea was not successful.

The court also ordered the police to test the suspect for Covid-19, before sending him to jail to make sure she was not infecting other inmates if she tested positive.

Outlining the facts of the case, Deputy Police Commissioner (ASP) Kyei Sarpong said the suspect was arrested on July 22 for allegedly killing her two sons. It was after she had left her marital home, a day earlier with the excuse of visiting her brother, in a nearby village, when her husband had gone to the Ejura market to sell his corn.

Sarpong added that she did not return the same day. However, she was later brought back by a neighbor to the husband’s house with the younger child already deceased.

This happened after the suspect went to the neighbor’s house to report that the husband tried to kill all three of them and that she managed to escape with the deceased child.

The husband then complained to the Ejura police, and the suspect was arrested. ASP Sarpong said the woman, however, was initially unable to tell police the whereabouts of her other son.

The police, along with a few members of the community, then went on a search for the second son. They found him on a farm about 4 kilometers from their house, half-buried with shredded 200 GH ¢ bills and 50 GH ¢, with Adwoa Juliana’s bag. The police continue to investigate, to elucidate this criminal case.
